The Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag is an updated version of the Progress Pride Flag that includes representation for the intersex community. It builds on the work of Daniel Quasar’s 2018 Progress Pride Flag by adding a symbol for intersex pride, thus making the flag even more inclusive.
Design and Meaning
The Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag incorporates:
- The traditional rainbow stripes: Representing the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community.
- Red: Life
- Orange: Healing
- Yellow: Sunlight
- Green: Nature
- Blue: Harmony
- Purple: Spirit
- Chevron with added stripes: Representing marginalized groups within the LGBTQ+ spectrum.
- White, Pink, and Light Blue: Transgender individuals (colours from the transgender pride flag).
- Brown and Black: People of color, with the black stripe also honoring those lost to HIV/AIDS.
- Intersex symbol:
- The yellow triangle with a purple circle is added to the chevron to represent the intersex community. These colours come from the Intersex Pride Flag designed by Morgan Carpenter in 2013. The circle symbolizes wholeness, completeness, and the right to self-determination.
Purpose
This version of the pride flag seeks to further emphasize inclusivity and representation for all identities within the LGBTQ+ community, particularly intersex individuals who have historically been underrepresented in broader LGBTQ+ advocacy. It reflects the community’s commitment to intersectionality and progress for everyone.
